Nexon’s Combat Arms slated for Summer Release

The company behind popular MMO Maple Story, Nexon, have recently announced the addition of a more mature title, Combat Arms, to their F2P (free to play) online games lineup, which includes Mabinogi and Audition. Players will get a chance to participate in the closed beta starting on May 30th.

Following the same footsteps as America’s Army, Combat Arms is another free online FPS with persistent character progression elements to join the growing list of the same genre alongside such titles as Warrock, Soldier Front and Wolf Team.

Small Worlds Beta Registrations Open for June

Small Worlds
is a flash-based 3D virtual world game that’s aimed at the 13+ online gaming age group.The game is accessible via web browser where players will be able to interact by socializing and playing multiplayer games. Together, friends can watch YouTube videos on virtual television sets, listen to Last.fm stereos and use Flickr images as in-game posters and picture frames for their customizable living spaces.

Though the game doesn’t require a subscription fee, premium accounts with new features like pets and voice chat are optional.

All New Fallen Earth Trailer Posted

The development team at Icarus Studios has put together an all new Fallen Earth trailer which showcases new gameplay footage of fully automatic weapons and an updated HUD for the first time. It also seems that vehicle physics have been tweaked to look more natural and movement speeds/animations have been made more fluid. The trailer couldn’t have come at a better time to give anxious fans a peek at how far the game has come along.

Shane Lacy Hensley to Produce New MMO

Shane Lacy Hensley was the creator of several top rated pen and paper RPGs such as the award-winning Deadlands, Weird Wars and Savage Worlds. He was recently promoted to head of Superstition Studios, which is part of Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, the company behind Stargate Worlds. Shane’s previous involvement with other works include the CoX (City of Heroes/Villains) franchise, collectible card games and various other table top hobbies.

Last week, Aeria Games was pleased to announce the beginning of closed beta for their latest free online game, Richman Online, an MMO property tycoon board game. The game is a combination of some of world’s popular board games, where players can buy and sell property, manage their own businesses and engage in stock market trading. Like many MMOs licensed and translated over from Asia for western audiences, Richman Online is visually represented by anime style graphics and cute characters.

Indie Developer Receives Grant For New Online Game

3 Lives Left, a Denmark-based video game development company, was recently awarded $125,000 in grant money from the the New Danish Screen at the Nordic Game Conference, which took place in Sweden. The grant comes from a pool of capital that’s used to help fund the development and production of various media projects and concepts.

New TrackMania United Forever Trailer

In order to hype up the official launch of TrackMania United Forever on the 23rd of May, a new trailer has been released and made available for download in low res and high res versions over at the game’s website. The new title is the sequel to TrackMania Nations Forever, which is completely free to download and play, plus the multiplayer is fully compatible with TrackMania United Forever, without the new modes, environments, vehicles and several other additions.

Wild West Online: Gunfighter Open Beta

A F2P (free to play) turn-based strategy game with some RPG elements, Wild West Online: Gunfighter has recently been made available for public testing. A new patch was just released yesterday, introducing new updates and features. The game is still relatively new and unheard of, so you can be one of the first to experience the game while developing your character, earning money, items and experience points to further customize your abilities.

Pixel Mine Games Officially Launches

The Pixel Mine Portal is a downloadable client that allows you to play a number of online multiplayer games including MMORPGs like Ashen Empires, Dransik and Secondhand Lands. The fourth game, Fireteam Reloaded, is a 2D isometric tactical shooter currently in beta testing. Pixel Mine plans to add around three to four games each year, most of which are from independent developers.

Roma Victor Prepares for Major Growth

It was announced today that the former CEO of TIGA, Fred Hasson, will become the Executive Director of RedBedlam, developers of the indie MMO set during the Roman Empire, Roma Victor.

In addition to continuing the development and expansion of the game, RedBedlam has plans to take Roma Victor to a new full-fledged commercial level in order to increase its overall exposure in the realm of persistent online games.

Roma Victor is a massively multiplayer online game with no subscription fee that features real-time combat and player-driven elements. It was in development for 5 years prior to being released in 2006.
