Alganon Interview at RPGVault

Alganon is a new MMORPG in development that’s been flying under the radar lately, but doesn’t seem to be trying to progress or revolutionize the genre. Instead, they’ve taken the traditional approach, with the usual class-based system, quests, etc. but with subtle tweaks and improvements over today’s standard MMOs.

One unique feature is an in-game library that players can make contributions to. The library contains a wealth of player-generated information such as items, creatures, magic, tradeskills, the history of the world and what families, guilds and people who have made achievements. Another unique feature are deities and crusades. Multiple deities allow characters to represent different powers, teachings and knowledge. This will allows for “holy wars” throughout the world. One player who declares patronage to a specific deity may find that in a certain part of the world, the creatures are drawn to destroy them with much more ferocity than another.

Crusades are the conquering wars that are declared by deities and their followers. Generally the most powerful followers of a deity declare the crusades, such as “wipe every orc from the face of the world”, which may gain additional Karma for those who engage in the crusade. Crusades can also empower players; using the previous example, perhaps every character that is part of the religion that has declared the crusade against the orcs receives an additional damage modifier to all orcs for a period of time.
