Part Two of MMOGamer.com’s Fallen Earth Interview

In part two of MMOGamer’s recent interview with Fallen Earth lead designer, Lee Hammock, Lee elaborates on previously known information.
Anyone who follows the development of Fallen Earth should already know how much work is being put in the background story of the game, but after reading this interview, that aspect is really something that Hammock seems to be extremely proud of. Judging from the official fictions that are written and posted on the Fallen Earth forums at least twice a month, the writing team at Icarus studios is highly proficient and have a lot of time to dedicate their craft to the game’s rich history and lore, which is important to the game’s immersion and atmosphere. The storylines and story arcs will definitely attract and satisfy many roleplayers and fans of the game, and perhaps even impress players who couldn’t care less about the story.
Although most FE fans already know this piece of information, the combat system uses FPS aiming and movement to simulate real-time combat, while statistics, attributes and equipment actually determine the dice-rolls that are calculated during each successful hit. As long as your crosshair is over your target and your weapon is fired simultaneously, you won’t miss. Each location of the body effects the target differently when hit. For example, a shot in the leg will slow a target down. The game pretty much feels almost exactly like a first-person shooter, but with RPG mechanics to supplement the sense of character individuality and advancement of an MMO.
Hammock stated that 75% of the content is implemented and wants to wait until they get 100% of it into the game before opening up a public beta. It took them roughly 9 months for them get the amount of content from 25% to 75%, so if you do the basic math, it could be about 4-5 months for Icarus to finish up with the content, then add several months to that to get everything optimized and ready to go before they finally allow players to test the game.
