NDOORS is giving Atlantica Online open beta players the opportunity to win numerous prizes including thousands of dollars in cash by entering a random drawing. To enter, you must reach level 20 and participate in the Free Leagues, Atlantica Online’s PvP arena, at least once between September 24th and October 23rd, 2008. The more people participate in the Free Leagues, the bigger and better the prizes get, and more chances to win. One lucky winner will even be able to take home $10,000 if there 30,000 Free Leaguers. “NDOORS created something unique in the MMO world when we designed the deep turn-based, strategic world of Atlantica Online. So we decided we needed something just as original for our open beta,” said Peter Kang, CEO, NDOORS Interactive.“This is going to be unlike anything anyone has seen before.
One of the most highly anticipated MMORPGs in recent months, Atlantica Online is starting its open beta phase next Wednesday on September 24th. Developed and published by NDOORS Interactive, Atlantica Online opts to deviate from the standard conventions of previous MMORPGs by utilizing a combat system inspired by Japanese console RPGs, deriving gameplay mechanics from games like Final Fantasy and Ogre Battle with instanced encounters and strategic turn-based battles.
The setting takes place in an alternate history Earth which shares elements from fantasy, sci-fi and steampunk themes. Much of the dungeons you’ll be exploring in Atlantica Online are based on real life ancient ruins and sites such as the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and the Pyramids of Egypt. Unlike in traditional MMORPGs, instead of only controlling one character, you can control multiple by recruiting mercenaries into your party, who’ll also develop their skills, attributes and abilities alongside your main character. Up to 8 mercenaries can be deployed in battles.
Guilds have the ability of taking control of towns and governing them, managing the construction of buildings and setting their own security, culture, industry, commerce and health policies for their towns. With enough power, guilds can even eventually form their own nation and wage war with other nations. What’s more, the economy in Atlantica Online is completely driven by the players, who craft almost all of the items and equipment in the world. The game will always be free to play but will most likely introduce a cash shop somewhere down the road if it follows the trend of typical free MMORPGs.
Sign-ups are now open for the beta portion of Atlantica Online supposedly starting this month. Atlantica Online is an MMORPG with a strategic turn-based combat system akin to traditional Japanese console RPGs.
